SEMC: Lead external technology scout in North America reporting to Worldwide Open Innovation team in Lund, Sweden. Identified and assessed 80+ companies (primarily seed stage) with novel hardware and/or software technology applicable to mobile devices. Developed technology scouting funnel through outreach to Venture Capital, Universities & Colleges and other groups. Evaluated technology and presented business cases to SEMC management.

Shoeboxed: Drove creation of USP and core messaging for consumer and business facing offerings. Created API-based strategy to build long term product defensibility. Secured a variety of lead-generating partnerships such as Evernote, FreshBooks and the Small Business Web initiative.

F-Origin: Identified and crafted USPs for three target markets. Defined and created demo materials. Created sales deck and supporting collateral including product and corporate literature sheets. Directed US and Japanese PR agencies for tradeshow and press activities.

disruptorMonkey was building a Web 2.0 SaaS information management platform for SMBs.

Conceived product idea. Created brand, pitch, business model & business plan. Built strategic relationship with Square 1 Bank to gain access to VC market. Pitched 23 VC firms within 6 months. Recruited co-founders & top-tier advisory board.

VP, Sales & Marketing, 12 Inch Design, LLC., Phoenix, AZ — 2002 – 2006

12 Inch Design creates & resells libraries of animated content for video professionals.

Day one responsibility for business development, sales, marketing & product manufacturing.  Built programs for traditional and online lead generation; customer retention & upsell; and channel development. Recruited Sales Manager, Manufacturer’s Reps and worldwide resellers. Negotiated strategic partnerships with Apple and Sony Electronics. Devised & built Just-in-Time manufacturing system to radically decrease product launch costs, enabling faster product releases without additional capital. Took leadership position in HD and emerging HDV market, and established top 3 position in SD market. Negotiated content licensing deals to enable creation of additional product lines. Secured press coverage & reviews from prominent industry publications and managed all tradeshows.

Vice-President – Animation, Rainbow Studios, inc., Phoenix, AZ — 1999 – 2002

Rainbow Studios, a division of THQ, inc., created video games & animated entertainment.

Devised & executed a rapid turnaround of money-losing division, reaching better than break-even within 6 months. Built division to 25 staff & annual revenues of $2.5M. Sole responsibility for divisional sales & marketing, including client acquisition, management & retention. Developed strategic relationships with Hasbro Toys and Sony Family Entertainment, delivering $3.5M in revenue over 3 years. Managed projects for brands as diverse as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, NERF, Tonka & Starship Troopers.

Drove aggressive technology development to improve production efficiency. Devised new business model for episodic TV production that improved margins through novel digital asset repurposing. Built relationships with key hardware and software vendors resulting in cost savings up to 50% on critical purchases. Worked with other members of the executive team to retain world-class turnaround CEO, resulting in the eventual sale of the company to THQ, inc for $55M in 2001.
